Hanukkah is an 8-day holiday commemorating the re-dedication of the holy Temple in Jerusalem in the 2nd century BCE. It celebrates the Jewish victory over the Syrian Greeks, and the miracle of the menorah oil. According to the Talmud, after the Temple was cleaned, olive oil was needed to fuel the light of the menorah (candelabrum). Though there was only enough oil to burn for one day, the oil lasted eight days.

It’s the Black Friday of the floral industry, a time when long hours and extra staff are a must as love-struck consumers vie for affection with roses and tulips.
But like any great romance, Valentine’s Day is fraught with highs and lows for florists. Sales, which dipped during the recession, have been slowly rebounding since.

Dear Miss Manners: I want to address the greeting of "Hi there/Hey there" that people often say to me.
I am not a location, and I truly prefer that people call me by my name, if they know it. If they don't, I'd prefer if they just said "Hi."
I have thought about telling them in a polite way what I prefer, but there is more to deal with in life than this particular pet peeve.
Purina recalls dog food over possible high vitamin D levels
Nestlé Purina PetCare Company is recalling certain prescription dog food after two dogs exhibited signs of vitamin D toxicity, according to federal health officials.
According to a notice posted by the Food and Drug Administration, the pet food company voluntarily recalled select lots of its Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EL Elemental prescription dry dog food “due to potentially elevated levels of vitamin D.”
The affected dog food was distributed across the US by prescription only through veterinary clinics, Purina Vet Direct and Purina for Professionals.
